The Lunchbox

For many years my mother has watched foreign films.   Sometimes I watch with her but mostly I don’t.   She likes to watch films with really dreary topics.   But when I came across The Lunchbox I thought it might be a film I would like to see.   The storyline seemed really sweet and it did not matter to me that there were subtitles.   All it meant was I could not easily do something else while I watched.   As great as this film is, I wouldn’t want to anyways.                 In India there is a lunchbox delivery service.   Lunches are made each day in homes and restaurants and picked up by men known as dabbawalas.   The dabbawalas take the lunchboxes and deliver them to the intended recipient at their place of work.   Once the lunch hour is over, the dabbawalas return for the now empty lunchboxes and bring them back to the sender.   It is an impeccable service that to my understanding rarely makes a mistake.   Everyone gets the lunch they are supposed to.   But wha

My Fair Lady

I got really excited a couple of days ago when I saw that My Fair Lady was going to be on TCM.   It’s been quite awhile since I’ve seen the film, but every time I even see the title pleasant memories come back to me.   This is because years ago I was part of a stage production of My Fair Lady .   It is something I haven’t thought about in a long time, but as I watched the film, I started remembering everything.   I am surprised at how many memories stared coming forward.   This is what is so great about movies.   They can bring memories back from all over the place.   Thankfully with My Fair Lady nearly all of them are good.                 Eliza Doolittle (Audrey Hepburn) is a flower girl with a strong Cockney accent.   As she sells her flowers on the street someone lets her know a man is watching her and taking notes.   Concerned the man is a cop, Eliza begins to protest loudly.   Fed up with her screaming, the man reveals himself to be Professor Henry Higgins

Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta

During the summer I find there is very little on TV that I want to watch.   At the moment I have the FIFA World Cup and Wimbledon to keep me occupied, but when those are over for the day I frequently find myself hopping between channels to see what might capture my interest.   A lot of times I turn off the TV all together.   It is nice to have the silence.   Other times I really do want to watch something.   Lately when this happens I seek out the show Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta .   I don’t know why I do this.   Weddings are not my thing and I’m not crazed about fashion either.   It doesn’t make sense as to why I watch this show, but I do, and I enjoy it.                 In Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta brides come to the bridal boutique Bridals by Lori in search of their perfect wedding dress.   The brides let the consultants know what they’re looking for and dresses along those lines are picked out to try on.   Once the bride is wearing the dress they show it
