TiMER

Let me warn you now, this is a strange film.   As I watched the first few minutes, I seriously questioned what I had gotten into.   I kept wondering this as I got more and more wrapped up in the story until I hardly thought about it at all.   The film remained strange all the way through.   That did not change.   What did was the story, and that was what made this film worth following all the way to the end.                    A new invention has been created called a TiMER.   It is a device that gets implanted on your wrist and will let you know how many days it will take for you to meet your soul mate.   The time counts down to the night before you are supposed to meet that special someone.   At midnight the clock will reach zero, signifying that you will meet your soul mate the very next da...

The Back to the Future Trilogy

Image
Photo of trilogy box cover taken by Kate Dorsey      I have been having a really hard time finding anything to watch on TV.   Shows are on, but very little of it interests me.   Last week’s Memorial Day weekend was especially bad.   Usually there is some good marathon on.   I found nothing.   At least that was the case until I remembered one of the channels was going to be airing the Back to the Future trilogy.   It was exactly what I was looking for.                    The Back to the Future trilogy starts with the movie Back to the Future .   In it, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) accidentally goes back in time to the year 1955.   He runs into his parents as teenagers and messes up their whole life story.   The story was supposed to go that Marty’s mother, Lorraine (Lea Thompson), fell in love with his father, George (Crispin Glover), wh...

Back to the Future Part III

We have now reached my favorite film of the Back to the Future trilogy.                 At the end of Back to the Future Part II (I apologize if I ruin the ending for anyone) Doc (Christopher Lloyd) is zapped by lightning back to the year 1885.   He writes Marty (Michael J. Fox) a letter to let Marty know he is okay and where he has left the time machine.   Doc does not want Marty to come find or save him as he is happy working as a blacksmith in the time where he is.   Marty is fully willing to go along with Doc’s wishes and return to 1985 until he discovers Doc will be killed one week after he writes his letter to Marty.   Wanting to prevent Doc’s death, Marty changes his plans and programs the time machine to take him to 1885.           ...

Back to the Future Part II

This is the film that sparked the Chicago Tribune article that led me to revisit the Back to the Future trilogy.   In it are the predictions the 1989 film makers made as to what the year 2015 would look like.   It is completely different from reality, but I’ll get into that later.   First I’ll talk about the film itself.                 Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) has just returned to 1985.   He’s ready to get back to life as normal and is excited to be going on a trip with his girlfriend, Jennifer (Elisabeth Shue).   Doc (Christopher Lloyd), however, changes their plans when he arrives to let them know they need to save their future children.   He packs Marty and Jennifer in the time machine and whisks them away to the year 2015.        ...

Back to the Future

It’s strange to think that Back to the Future has been out for almost thirty years.   I didn’t even realize it until the Chicago Tribune had an article about Back to the Future II .   In that film the characters travel to 2015 and the Chicago Tribune compared the “predictions” of the film’s 2015 to what it will actually be.   After reading the article I decided it was time for me to watch the trilogy again.   I have only watched Back to the Future so far, but I will be watching the other ones soon.                 Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is your average teenage guy.   He goes to school (often arriving late), has a girlfriend, and plays in a band.   What is different is that Marty is also friends with a controversial scientist, Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd).   ...
