Addams Family Values

As it is Halloween, I thought it would be fitting to follow up last week’s post of The Addams Family with its sequel Addams Family Values . In many ways I like the sequel more than the original. The camp scenes are hilarious. But I am getting ahead of myself. Let me start at the beginning.                 The Addams family is back and they have a new member in the family, baby brother Pubert. Wednesday and Pugsley do not take to the new baby at all causing Gomez and Morticia to hire a nanny. The interviews do not go well, which I am sure is not a surprise as this is the Addams family, until one day Debbie (Joan Cusack) shows up at the door. She is hired on the spot, without ever meeting the children. That may have been a mistake on Debbie’s part. She is not really there to be a nanny. Capturing Uncle Fester is her true reason for entering the Addams’ household. Wednesday and Pugsley, however, are upsetting her plans and she has to figure out how to get rid of them. In

The Addams Family

Recently I was asked about past costumes I had worn for Halloween. The first one that came to mind was Wednesday Addams. I have always loved the movies The Addams Family and Addams Family Values so it was not a big leap for me to dress up as an Addams one year. This conversation made me realize I had not watched these movies in awhile. It did not take me too long to do so again.                 The Addams family is a strange and dark family who is unlike the others in the neighborhood. They are not really like anyone anywhere to tell the truth. The members are neither cheery nor bright, and they definitely do not follow the social norms. They are, however, a loving family in their own way. The parents, Gomez (Raul Julia) and Morticia (Anjelica Huston) cannot keep their hands off each other. Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman), the children, play in a manner that is quite dangerous and could easily cause harm to each other,

My Fair Wedding Unveiled

In the past I have watched the television show My Fair Wedding with David Tutera . It is an enjoyable show with wedding planner David Tutera helping brides get their weddings together in a short amount of time. He pretty much comes in and takes over, creating a beautiful wedding in the end. Often there are difficulties to overcome, such as an unusual theme or a very stubborn bride, but Mr. Tutera seems to always accomplish what he set out to do. For awhile I watched this show a lot, but then other things began to take my interest and I only watched periodically. When I saw the preview for My Fair Wedding with David Tutera Unveiled (also referred to as just My Fair Wedding Unveiled ) I was interested as I always wanted to know what it really took to get the weddings together. My interest did not lead to me actually watching the show until my mom came across it. She told me to watch and ever since I have seen each new episode as they have aired.                Ev

Two-Minute Mysteries by Donald J. Sobol

Lately my attention span has been short. Shorter than usual, I mean. No matter whether it is books, music, movies, or television; my brain drifts. Even my beloved Face Off , which I anxiously await every week, has me only partially paying attention. (Note: I am not saying there is anything wrong with Face Off . I love it and believe the talent and the show is absolutely fantastic. If I had my choice, everyone would watch!) This lack of attention happens to me every once in awhile, but this time is worse than usual. That is why I have turned to my ever reliable books, Two-Minute Mysteries .                 There are three Two-Minute Mysteries books. First is the original Two-Minute Mysteries , then there is More Two-Minute Mysteries , and the last is Still More Two-Minute Mysteries . These books have come off my shelf so many times I have practically memorized the stories. That does not mean I do not want to keep reading them.

Restaurant Stakeout

As a person with a food allergy, a very strange one, I have learned to judge the wait staff at restaurants very quickly. This probably sounds terrible, but it is the truth. I can easily tell who will be helpful and who will treat me as though they cannot get me out of the restaurant fast enough. The latter I usually do not ask about the ingredients and order something not all that exciting. Then I do not return. Sometimes it is not even my allergy that causes problems. There can be plain, old, bad customer service. That is what Willie Degel, restaurant owner and host of Restaurant Stakeout , is trying to change, one establishment at a time.             For some reason I always come across Restaurant Stakeout five to ten minutes after it has started. I cannot tell you why especially since I know what time the new episodes are airing. Usually when I watch this show, I stumble upon it. This is actually how I found the show in the first place.
