History

I have regularly watched the History channel for a long time, but it was in the week leading up to Sons of Liberty that I really got hooked.   There were so many specials on the Revolutionary War that I felt I had done an in depth study on it for years.   The main special was a miniseries that was spread out for days.   It went into great detail about everything that happened, and I do mean everything.   The series even included people’s egos and how their greed or desire for notoriety affected the happenings of the war.   Another special was primarily about the Founding Fathers.   In some ways I found this show more interesting than the miniseries because it went behind the scenes and revealed the true natures of the Founding Fathers.   I must say that after this show I had to wonder why we honor some of these men as we do.   The reality of how they truly were was not pleasant.                             After the specials there was the miniseries Sons of Libert

The Great British Baking Show

This is the best food competition show I have ever seen.   I’m serious.   There are a lot of food competition shows, but none do I remember being as excited about as I am with The Great British Baking Show .   The funny thing is, I found it by chance.   I happened to be watching something else on PBS and I uncharacteristically stayed on the channel past the credits.   A commercial for The Great British Baking Show happened to come on, and that is how I discovered it.   I am so happy that I did.                          The Great British Baking Show is set up like most other competition shows.   Every week there are different challenges.   At the end of each episode, one person is declared the “Star Baker” while another is eliminated from the competition.   The first challenge is called the Signature Bake, and it is one the contestants can practice at home.   Next comes the Technical Challenge.   This time the contestants are given a recipe created by one of th

Expedition Unknown

Josh Gates is back!   I was so excited when I started seeing promos for Josh Gates’ new show on Travel Channel.   When Destination Truth on Syfy ended, I wondered what was going to happen to him.   Josh is such a great host and I really hoped I would get the opportunity to see him on television again, but I wasn’t sure if I would.   Thanks to Expedition Unknown I get to do just that, except this time I like him even better.                 In Expedition Unknown , Josh travels the world investigating more historical mysteries instead of looking for creatures as he did in Destination Truth .   He also investigates alone rather than having a team investigate with him as he did before.   This way it is all up to Josh to find what he is looking for, which could be a variety of things.                 The first episode was a two hour special about Amelia Earhart.   Missing since 1937, there have been many theories as to what may have happened to her.   In order to

The Secret Adversary: A Tommy and Tuppence Mystery by Agatha Christie

Even though I have read the works of Agatha Christie for many years, it wasn’t until recently that I heard of Tommy and Tuppence.   Maybe that is because I primarily read Ms. Christie’s short stories and plays instead of her novels.   I find I enjoy her short stories and plays more than her novels, which is why when I did come across the Tommy and Tuppence mystery novels I was hesitant to pick them up.   It took me a while to finally reserve the first one from the library, but once I did, I had a hard time putting it down.                                Tommy Beresford and Tuppence Cowley are old friends who decide to go into business together.   Their business is one where people pay them to have adventures.   How this is supposed to work I don’t have any idea.   I even read the passage describing the business a few times and all I ended up being was confused.   Anyways, Tommy and Tuppence decide to create this business and right away Tuppence is offered a p
