Diary of a Player: How My Musical Heroes Made a Guitar Man Out of Me by Brad Paisley and David Wild

Let me state something.   I am not a guitar person.   I admire and appreciate people who can play.   The sound of a guitar I greatly enjoy.   Once the specifics begin, I am done.   I cannot tell the difference between types of guitars.   Do not even get me started on amps.   These things are not my forte.                        When I picked up this book I did so because of Brad Paisley.   He is my favorite country music star.   The funny thing is one of the main reasons I even know who he is is because of his wife.   I have been a fan of Kimberly Williams-Paisley since her Father of the Bride days.   Through my interest in her, I have become a Brad Paisley fan.   He is incredibly talented, funny, and appears to be a good man to top it off.   When I saw on the CMA Awards that Mr. Paisley had a book out, I was curious.   What I did not know was how guitar oriented this book was going to be, despite the title.   It was quite an education.                 There is a w

CMA Awards

There are probably only two music awards shows I watch during the year.   Both happen to be country music.   The irony of this is country music is probably what I listen to the least.   Despite this, for some reason I feel compelled to watch the CMA Awards every year.                 The Country Music Association Awards is in many ways a giant concert.   I think that is why I like it so much.   It is performances without a lot of flash and distractions.   Occasionally there is a little something extra.   This year one of the performances had aerial acrobats.   While these women were noticeable, they did not divert attention from the talent on stage.   Everything is about the music during this ceremony.   That is something I really appreciate.                 Of course there are awards.   They are spread out through the night but the show is not overtaken by long acceptance speeches.   The winners are concise while making it feel as though they have not left anyone out in

The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs

I watched the first three seasons of The Next Iron Chef , but the Super Chef season is the one I am most excited about.   Most of the competitors are chefs I have seen on their own cooking shows or in other cooking competitions.   While all these people have proved themselves in the culinary world, there is something about Iron Chef that ramps everything up.   I am curious to see what each one will pull out in order to earn the title of Iron Chef.                        This season things are run a little differently.   Usually there is a small challenge and then the elimination challenge.   The Super Chefs have a different set-up.   There are still two challenges per episode.   The first has everyone competing.   A winner is declared and the bottom two must face off in the second challenge.   This second one is where it is determined who will stay and who will go home.   While the first part is intense and serious, the second one is even worse.   Everything is

Dracula performed by the Milwaukee Ballet

It has been years since I have attended a ballet performance.   When I saw the Milwaukee Ballet was going to perform Dracula , I knew I had to go.   I have read the book twice and seen the play, so I was really curious as to how it would be translated into a ballet.                 Overall the ballet was well done.   There were a few confusing parts where I was wondering if something was actually happening of if it was part of a nightmare.   Also during the hotel scene it was difficult to tell who was who.   I do not believe this had anything to do with where I was sitting.                 One person that could never be mistaken was Dracula.   First off, the dancer was tall and held his body very straight.   Then there was the commanding presence he projected and his distinct way of moving.   I believe he must have gotten such a thrill hanging off of things and slithering across the floor.   What was also interesting was how the dancer held the character all the wa
