My Big Fat Geek Wedding

There is something about watching a wedding come together that is absolutely fascinating.   I am not talking about the fighting, the tears, or the mishaps.   What I like to see is the dress being chosen, where the flowers came from, and how the location is transformed.   The drama can go somewhere else.   I want to see the creation of the wedding from start to finish.   My Big Fat Geek Wedding , a recent Premiere Event on Syfy, did this, but with a twist.   The wedding that was held was not traditional, it was based on fantasy.                       Mandie Bettencourt and Julian Roman want a wedding that involves their love of fantasy.   They are looking to have a theme of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones but are having a hard time finding a wedding planner willing to do it.   This is where Kristin Banta comes in.   An experienced wedding planner, Ms. Banta is ready to take on the challenge Mandie and Julian have put before her.   While Lord of the Rings a

Taking Chance

When Taking Chance first came out, I heard about the film but I did not know much about it.   I knew it starred Kevin Bacon and that his character was in the military.   Also I knew the film had something to do with visiting the family of a fallen soldier.   Beyond that the movie was a mystery to me.   Then it showed up in the recommended film section and I threw it on my list.   The disc would arrive when it arrives and that was it.   After seeing the film I am so happy I put it in my queue.   Even though it is on the short side, every minute has a lot of impact and I feel this is a film everyone should see.                               Marine Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl (Kevin Bacon) is struggling with the fact that he is not fighting in Iraq.   Instead he is working a desk job and goes home to his family every day.   While he has had a long military career, Lt. Colonel Strobl feels that by not being overseas he is missing something.   When he sees someone from hi

Sleepless in Seattle

When I think of Turner Classic Movies (TCM) I think of films that were made long before I was born.   Okay, maybe not long before, but definitely not ones that were released in my lifetime.   A movie that was in the theatres in the ‘90s would definitely be too new to be aired on a classic movie channel.                 This is what ran through my head when I saw Sleepless in Seattle was going to be on TCM.   Then I realized Sleepless in Seattle has been around for twenty years.   I could not believe it had been that long since the film was released to theatres.   Then I saw the computer screens used in the film and saw that, oh, yes, the movie is that old.   Technology is so different now and it is really strange to see how it used to be.   But the different technology does not make the movie any less enjoyable.   In some ways it makes it more so because without cell phones and constant connection life appears to be a much simpler time.   That brings the love story

King of the Nerds

I don’t know why, but I love the show King of the Nerds .   It is something I look forward to every week.   In fact, I have eagerly awaited the second season for an entire year.   When the first season ended, I hoped there would be a second one on air very soon.   Some reality competition shows have two seasons a year and I really wanted King of the Nerds to be one of those shows.   Unfortunately it wasn’t and I had to wait, but it was worth it.                    When talking about the basic structure, King of the Nerds is not that different from other reality competition shows.   The contestants are split up into teams and each week the teams face a new challenge.   After the challenge, two members of the losing team are selected for possible elimination.   They must compete against each other to determine who will stay and who will go home.   Eventually the teams break up and everyone remaining competes as an individual.   Whoever is the last one standing is
