The Dressmaker: A Novel by Kate Alcott

Last year there was a lot of coverage about the 100 th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.   I watched a lot of different specials and at least one of the new movies.   While the movie was a work of historical fiction, the specials were more factual.   I found them to be really interesting as the people involved discussed what happened and could have been prevented.   They went through a lot of different evidence and explained their theories about the events surrounding the Titanic.   The novel The Dressmaker is a work of historical fiction and does not center itself around evidence.   It is the story of a young woman who survived the Titanic and the events of her life immediately afterwards.                 Tess is, for lack of a better term, a servant.   She hates the life she is living and is determined to change it.   Trained as a seamstress, Tess wants to become a fashion designer, but she must escape her current situation.   Fed up, Tess leaves her

A Magical Dressmaking Mystery Series by Melissa Bourbon

I am just eating up this mystery series.   Not literally since I do not think paper would taste very good and I do not want to hurt the books, but you know what I mean.   Once I finish one book in the series I put the next one on hold at the library.   At the moment I have read the first three, starting with Pleating for Mercy .   The sad thing is I think there are only four books in the series so far.   I am about to finish all there is too read!   Hopefully there is a fifth one in the works and it will come out soon.                                 Harlow Cassidy has returned to her hometown of Bliss, Texas after spending years in New York working in the fashion industry.   She has inherited her great-grandmother’s, Meemaw’s, house and opened a dressmaking shop.   Her grandmother and mother live nearby and they help Harlow when things get to be a bit too crazy.   They are all descendents of the legendary Butch Cassidy which would be interesting all on its own, b

Great Taste

When I am sick all I truly care about is getting better.   Not much else crosses my mind except for all the things I would rather be doing other than being sick.   This may sound selfish to some, but it is how I feel and I am sure I am not alone in this sentiment.   Who truly likes feeling awful and not being able to do anything?   Maybe someone does, but I do not think it is any fun.                         Recently I became sick.   It was pretty severe.   While traditionally people turn to chicken noodle soup to feel better, I do not.   I have never taken to it.   Instead I seek out Hot and Sour Soup from the restaurant Great Taste.   Located in Wauwatosa, WI, Great Taste is my favorite Chinese restaurant.   Somehow its Hot and Sour Soup always manages to make me feel better.   Of course I find it hard to stop at the Hot and Sour Soup.   I also have to get my favorite meal of Moo Shu Chicken.   This is my favorite dish of all Chinese food, without MSG, please.   I

Greek Yogurt

Lately I have been gorging on Greek yogurt.   Okay, maybe gorging is the wrong word.   I am not eating yogurt twenty-four hours a day.   But I am eating it much more frequently than I used to.   It is not often that a day goes by that I do not eat at least one container of yogurt, if not two.   The yogurt is that good and I find I even want it for dessert.   One single serving cup is very satisfying.   It also works great as a shot of protein when I am running out the door.                 The two brands I eat are Oikos and Chobani.   I like both brands but for different reasons.   Oikos has the better texture, in my opinion.   I agree with John Stamos on that one.   The yogurt is really smooth.   Chobani has more unique and interesting flavors.   Blood Orange is not a common flavor in my experience.   Each brand also does different flavors better than the other.   One big example of this is Pineapple.   With Oikos it is okay, but Chobani does it really well.   I de
