Dark Chocolate Demise: A Cupcake Bakery Mystery by Jenn McKinlay

Image
What is the fascination with zombies?   It is a phenomenon I don’t understand.   Dracula .   Frankenstein’s monster.   Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.   Those I get.   Maybe because these characters are part of literature, I understand people’s fascination with them more.   There might be a book about a zombie, I just don’t know it.   But zombies as a whole, and wanting to walk around like one on a day other than Halloween, I just don’t get.        It’s Zombie Walk time, and the owners of Fairy Tale Cupcakes have decided to sell their cupcakes during the festivities.   Things do not go well from the start.      First, co-owner Angie’s rock and roll ex-boyfriend shows up to perform.   Then two kids follow bakery employee Marty around because they think he’s a ghost.   Co-owner Tate gets in a fight because of a false accusation cast at employee Oz .   And co-owner and head ba...

Murder on Millionaires’ Row: A Mystery by Erin Lindsey

Image
If you’re looking for a different kind of mystery, Murder on Millionaires’ Row is definitely it.   I would call it a paranormal historical mystery.   Is there even a category for that?   Paranormal, yes.   Historical, yes.   Mystery, absolutely.   Combinations of at least two of these genres, certainly.   But all three?   Well, now there is one.      It’s 1886 and Rose Gallagher, a maid, is in love with her boss.      Well, maybe “in love” is too strong of a term.   Infatuated would probably be more accurate.   Either way, when Thomas Wiltshire disappears, Rose becomes concerned.   While most employees would be happy to have their boss away, Rose sets out to find Thomas and bring him home.      Everyone is shocked when Rose actually manages what she set out to do.   She finds Thomas, despite his having been kidnapped and hidden away.   His return home ...

Haunted Collector

Watching a show about spirits attaching themselves to objects has made me wonder about the things in my house.   I do not believe any of my possessions are haunted, but do I know that for sure? If something in this house does have a spirit attached to it, that spirit is certainly not bothering me.   Other people are not so fortunate.   They do have haunted objects and they are encountering big problems.   Some of them are very fearful and do not understand what is causing the disturbances in their home.   That is where John Zaffis comes in.                   Mr. Zaffis is known as the Haunted Collector.   Starring in a TV show of the same name, Mr. Zaffis and his team go to different locations in order to find haunted objects.   Usually they go to individuals’ h...

The Next Always: Book One of the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy by Nora Roberts

The Next Alway: Book One of the Inn Boonsboro Trilogy Photo of book cover taken by Kate Dorsey      Since I loved the Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts, and that set of stories is now finished, I was excited to see Ms. Roberts had begun a new series.   This time, instead of four female friends, it is three brothers.   To be honest, I think the bride books were a little better.   They flowed a bit more crisply in my opinion.   That, however, does not mean I dislike this series in any way.   If I did, I would not be eagerly anticipating the next book as much as I am.            Beckett Montgomery and his two brothers, Owen and Ryder, are working together to rehab a local inn.   While everything is up for discussion, each brother has their own important role.   Beckett is the architect, Owen is the organizer, and Ryder is the carpenter.   For this first book, Beckett is the main character, alt...

Supernatural

I am one of those people that find is difficult to just sit and watch television.   No matter what is on, it is rare when I am not doing something else at the same time.   That is not the case with Supernatural .   I have to sit and watch.   When I try and do something else, I usually find myself drifting to the show and not what I am doing.   This is very frustrating, but I have to watch Dean!                 My brother suggested this show to me awhile back, but it was my friend Jen who really pushed me to start watching.   Now, I have this thing where I do not like to start in the middle of a series.   Books I am most strict on this, but I figured I should start at the beginning with this show as well.   I began to get the series through the mail, and even though I have only seen four discs o...

Ghost Adventures

Gloomy nights are perfect for ghost stories.  Thankfully there are plenty of what I call haunted shows on television.  These are shows full of people doing real life investigations and revealing their findings to the viewing public.  Sadly, my favorite show is no longer in existence.  I do not know if it is airing anywhere in the U.S. and I have read that it stopped filming.  With the loss, I looked into other shows and found one that I continue to watch, Ghost Adventures .  The ironic this is when the show first came out, I could not stand it.  In my mind they were too aggressive and strong in their provocation.  That was not the only thing that bothered me.  At the time I could not pinpoint what the thing was.  Then I read an article where someone mentioned this show.  I will not repeat what was said, but they made me realize that last bothering t...

Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie

Yesterday I planned to read for only one hour.   Quickly that hour became two, then three, then four, and well, you get the picture.   Except for about twenty pages I read the night before, I read this entire book in one day.   I could not stop reading.   Good thing it was a Sunday.                 There is a place in southern Ohio where two children and a housekeeper live.   The children have seen much death in their short lives, both their parents and an aunt.   In the short time since the death of their aunt, the children have gone through three different nannies.   Their guardian, North, decides to send his ex-wife, Andie, down to fix the situation with the children.   Having been there very little himself, he does not quite know what he is sending Andie into.    ...
