Turner Classic Movies

Ever since the “Sundays with Hitch” event last September I have been hooked on the Turner Classic Movies (TCM) channel.   I don’t watch it all the time, but I do frequently check to see which film is showing.   If my mother happens to be in the room when I turn to the channel, I always ask her what film is on.   She has seen practically everything and I figure she’ll know the answer after watching for about a minute.   Very often she does.   I do the same thing when looking at the TV listings, except this time I ask if the film is good.   If she says the film won’t be to my liking, I’ll take her word for it.   She knows what I like and don’t like, including some classics that I have zero desire to ever see.   Occasionally I do come across a film my mother has never heard of or she isn’t around to ask about it.   This can be really exciting because I am experiencing a new (it’s actually old, but new to me) film and am able to introduce it to others.   This does not happ

Dallas Buyers Club

When Dallas Buyers Club was released to theatres I was not interested in seeing it.   There was something I saw in the commercials that turned me off.   It seemed as though the film was going to be crude, which is not my taste. I began to become intrigued when Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto started to win all their awards.   However, my intrigue was not strong enough to actually go out and see the film.   Then my mom came upon a preview.   After seeing the preview, she told me Dallas Buyers Club might be worth seeing.   As I trust my mother’s opinion, I decided to give the film a try.   What I found out was I was right.   The film is on the crude side with its language and sexual content, but I don’t feel it was put in for shock value.   I suspect the language and sexual content in the film were accurate in regards to what was happening in that time. All in all I believe this is a film people should see.   It is about a topic and events that people need to know mor

Silence

I will be honest, not a lot of new things have been capturing my attention lately.   Either I’m concentrating on things I have already written about, or I try things and lose interest fairly quickly.   I’ll start books and put them to the side.   Some I keep going with but I read them in short pieces so my mind doesn’t wander away.   All the shows I watch are coming to an end for the season and the new ones haven’t started yet.   As for movies, I haven’t seen too many lately.   I did go to the theatre and see Bears recently.   It was really cute and once again Disneynature did a fantastic job.   Other than that, nothing is keeping my mind from going all over the place.   I think there is too much moving around in it right now.                 The only thing that really seems to be settling down my brain is silence.   I’m not talking about just auditory silence, but also visual.   All the flashing pixels of the TV and computer can be really distracting.   Sometimes they

Back to the Future Part III

We have now reached my favorite film of the Back to the Future trilogy.                 At the end of Back to the Future Part II (I apologize if I ruin the ending for anyone) Doc (Christopher Lloyd) is zapped by lightning back to the year 1885.   He writes Marty (Michael J. Fox) a letter to let Marty know he is okay and where he has left the time machine.   Doc does not want Marty to come find or save him as he is happy working as a blacksmith in the time where he is.   Marty is fully willing to go along with Doc’s wishes and return to 1985 until he discovers Doc will be killed one week after he writes his letter to Marty.   Wanting to prevent Doc’s death, Marty changes his plans and programs the time machine to take him to 1885.                    When Marty arrives in 1885 the fuel line on the time machine breaks.   He doesn’t worry about it too much as he figures the fuel line can be fixed later.   Marty leaves the time machine in a safe place and goes off
