The Answer is …: Reflections on My Life by Alex Trebek

For years I did not watch Jeopardy! .  That’s because even in non-election times there were political commercials.  Political commercials during each and every episode.  It, along with some contestants, drove me crazy.  I decided not to watch for a while.  That while ended up being years.       Then Alex Trebek died.   In a year full of celebrity deaths, for me it was one of the saddest.   He was Jeopardy! .   Even though I did not watch the show, I still loved it.   I kept hoping Mr. Trebek would beat his cancer and continue on.   Sadly, he did not, ending Jeopardy! as we know it.      When I found out when Mr. Trebek’s last episodes were going to be, I tuned in to watch.   Then the guest hosts were announced.   I watched one with Ken Jennings.   Possibly the first episode after Mr. Trebek’s last, and that was it.   Until Aaron Rodgers.        Now, I am not a football fan.   I do not watch football, unless you count European football.   With that, I will admit I watch far

Agatha Christie’s Marple

Putting the Pieces Together /Artwork by Kate Dorsey      Years ago, I tried watching Agatha Christie’s Marple .   For some reason I didn’t like it.   Why?   I’m not sure.   There was just something about it I didn’t like.      Then, a few months ago, I was reading a book about PBS .   Marple was mentioned in it.   Since it had been so long since I’d tried the series the first time, I decided to give it another try.   I expected to not like it again.      Surprise!   This time around I found I enjoyed the series.   So far, I have watched the first three seasons, and am very curious to see what is going to happen in the fourth.   The actress who portrays Miss Marple changes in season four.   It will be interesting to see how the show does as well.      For now, let’s talk about the first three season.      Miss Jane Marple (Geraldine McEwan) has a lot more going on upstairs then many would expect.   Those who don’t know her would easily cast her aside as either a busybody (which

Hitting the Books: A Library Lover’s Mystery by Jenn McKinlay

Some series have so many books, it is strange to think of a time when the characters won’t be around anymore.  Sometimes this happens because I am all caught up and am waiting for the next book to be released.  Other times the series has officially ended.       Thankfully, with the Library Lover’s Mysteries , there are more books to read.   When I finish one, I am always eager to read the next to see what is going to happen.      Nobody expects to witness a hit-and-run.   At least I certainly hope they don’t.   Library Director Lindsey Norris certainly didn’t.   She was merely looking out the library window when she happened to see a car come straight at tennis coach Theresa Huston.   Thankfully, as awful as the situation was, Teresa’s only big injury is a broken leg.   Unfortunately, the terrible events do not stop there.      While recuperating at home, someone breaks into Theresa’s house and tries to suffocate her.   With the new alarm system installed by her furniture st

Murder in Moscow: A Murder, She Wrote Mystery by Jessica Fletcher & Donald Bain

Far too often, books I read have unrealistic things happen.   And a lot of them.   One or two things, okay.   That’s fine.   But when the whole book feels unrealistic and unbelievable, that can be a problem.   While I did enjoy Murder in Moscow , this was definitely an unrealistic book.      Bestselling mystery author Jessica Fletcher has been asked to be part of an exchange project the U.S. government’s Commerce Department is putting on.   Russian publishers will be coming to Washington, DC to meet people in the American publishing industry.   After that, the entire group will fly to Russia.        Boris Yeltsin has recently been elected in Russia, and the country is struggling to convert from a Communist to a Democratic system.   Everyone warns Jessica about the danger and violence in Russia, but Jessica is still excited to go.      Unfortunately, things go badly from the get-go.   In Washington, DC, Jessica meets her Russian publisher, Vladislav “Vlady” Straitova.   He does
