Shattered by Karen Robards

My cat would like very little better than for me to sit still all day on the chance he may want my company.   I regularly remind him that despite my own desire, I as of yet do not get paid to stay home and read.   With this book, I so wish I did.   It moved quickly and all I wanted to do was keep reading.                 On punishment for missing a court date, research assistant Lisa is sent by her District Attorney boss to the cold case files.   While there she is shown a file and a photo.   It is of a missing family and Lisa looks identical to the mother.   In fact, they could be twins except the photo was taken before Lisa was even born.   Driven to figure out what happened to this family, Lisa begins to investigate and runs into an unknown someone determined to stop her.                  While the mystery is enticing enough, so is the relationship between Lisa and her boss, Scott.   They grew up with each other, Scott a few years older and working for Lisa’s family.

Someone Like You

While this film did catch my eye when I first flipped through Katie’s movie binder, it was one of the last ones I watched.   I am not sure why, but I wanted to make sure I saw it before the binder was returned.   It stars two actors I like, Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman.   Actually Mr. Jackman would have been enough of a reason to watch the movie.                   Ashley Judd plays Jane, a woman who believes she has met the man for her.   The relationship happens quickly, and even though he already has a girlfriend, they begin to look for an apartment together.   Once this happens, it does not take long for the man to become distant.   In a very short amount of time, Jane goes from happy and in love to without a boyfriend or a place to live.   In comes Eddie, portrayed by Hugh Jackman.   In normal circumstances, Jane wants very little to do with Eddie.   He is always dating a different woman and she does not exactly approve of his lifestyle.   Eddie is, however, look

Legacy by Danielle Steel

It took me by surprise when my mom recommended this book to me.   To my recollection I have never read a book by Danielle Steel as they are not ones I tend to gravitate towards.   After reading this book, I think I will start to pay more attention to Ms. Steel’s works as I enjoyed nearly every minute.               Brigitte is going through a rough patch.   Actually, that is an understatement.   She has been dating a man for six years.   Although they never really discussed it, she always thought they would get married and have children.   Instead, he goes on an archaeological dig in Egypt and breaks up with her.   On top of it, he tells her he does not know if marriage and children are really his thing.   If this was not bad enough, two days later Brigitte is let go from her job.   The school she works for feels her duties can be done by a computer and she is no longer necessary.   With six months of severance pay, she applies to jobs and unsuccessfully works on her no

Tony Awards

Even though it has been a bit since I was fully involved in the theatre, I like keeping up and knowing what is going on in the theatre world.   The biggest way I do this is by watching the Tony Awards.   During the awards, scenes from the nominated musicals are performed.   I am always excited to view these scenes because I want to know if there is one I want to go see once they go on tour as I have yet to make it to Broadway.   Also shown are bits from the nominated plays.                 Then there is the host.   I have seen Neil Patrick Harris perform the hosting duty twice now.   He does a wonderful job.   The show keeps moving with very infrequent uncomfortable lulls, and those usually only happen when he has given up the microphone.   He is funny and keeps the audience entertained the entire time.   I hope to see him host again.                 What is fascinating to me is how many movie and television actors have taken to the stage.   It is really encouraging to

Bedknobs and Broomsticks

This is a movie I have watched and enjoyed since I was a child.   When I opened up Katie’s movie binder that she lent me, I was thrilled to see the disc in one of the sleeves.   Of course I had to watch.   How could I resist, especially since I have not seen the whole thing in years.                    Angela Lansbury is Miss Price, a woman learning to be a witch through classes by mail.   Set in the beginning of World War II, Miss Price reluctantly takes in three children evacuated from London.   When her classes are suddenly canceled, Miss Price becomes determined to find her professor and get the final lesson.   They do this by traveling on a disappearing bed.   Finding the professor is just the first adventure.   After this they travel to under the sea, play soccer with animals, and set suits of armor to life.   I love the suits of armor.   The mix of cartoon and live action is done well, especially considering how long ago this movie was made.                 Now
