Geeks Who Drink

When I first saw the commercials for this show I was not interested.   I like trivia, but I don’t particularly care for things that emphasize drinking.   It’s not my thing.   Then by chance I actually saw an episode of Geeks Who Drink because it aired after Face Off .   The show is not what I thought it would be at all.   Any drinking that does happen is minimal.   It is really just a sip here and there, which leaves the majority of the show to some really great trivia.                             In each episode of Geeks Who Drink there are two teams ready to compete about all things geeky and nerdy.   The teams are made up of one celebrity who leads the team and two people who have immersed themselves in the “geek” world.   Each has their own specialty, but they all engage in questions about books, comic books, TV, movies, and video games.   Some of the questions feel like general knowledge (I say this because maybe I think they are and they really aren’t) w

Woman in Gold

The list of atrocities Hitler and his Nazis did could go on and on.   Most of these acts can never be reversed, but there are a few that can.   One is the return of art and other possessions to their rightful owners.   During their power, the Nazis raided Jewish homes.   They took whatever they wanted without any thought that these items were not rightfully theirs to have.   If a Nazi wanted a piece of art or jewelry he took it and that was the end of the story.   At least it was for them.   For those who lost their possessions, the sight of their possessions being taken right in front of their eyes stayed with them for the rest of their lives.   What made the situation even worse was once the war was over, most of these items were never returned to their rightful owners.   Instead they went to others who claimed they had the right to own them despite the items having been stolen in the first place.   To right this wrong and get things back, people have a very rough r

Sherlock

Sherlock Holmes is really big right now.   Not that he ever isn’t big, but I feel that for the last several years Sherlock Holmes has been around more than I can remember him ever being before.   There have been movies, TV shows, and books all taking different thoughts on this famous detective.   Some of these new versions I have looked into, and others I haven’t.   So far there is only one that I have become attached to, and that is the BBC’s Sherlock .                                 Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) has returned from war in Afghanistan not sure what to do with himself.   His leg is injured from the war and he is seeing a therapist, but there is not much else going on in his life.   That changes when John runs into an old friend.   The friend learns of the difficulties John is going through and believes he can help.   He knows of a very interesting man who may be just the right person to get John back on his feet.   That man is Sherlock Holmes.

A Pattern of Lies: A Bess Crawford Mystery by Charles Todd

For months I have waited for this newest Bess Crawford Mystery to come out.   I had to see if the war was going to end and, of course, if Simon and Bess were finally going to get together.   Here’s where I ruin some things.   The answer is no on both fronts.   However, both do seem to be getting closer, especially the end of the war.   As for Simon and Bess, there’s a hint of their relationship moving forward, but nothing definite.   Maybe it will happen in the next book.                 World War I Army nurse Bess Crawford is trying to go home to visit her family for a bit, but her train ends up delayed.   Not wanting to spend an unknown amount of time standing around the station, Bess decides to wander around the town.   It is there she runs into an old patient of hers, Major Mark Ashton.   He was severely wounded in battle and spent quite a bit of time under Bess’s and the other nurses’ care.   His mother also came to the site and stayed with her son until h
