My Current Interest

     The magical cats have returned!  As usual, they are doing whatever they want do to.  No one can tell them otherwise and have them actually listen.  Even when they’re magical, there are some traits all cats share.      A music festival is being held in the town of Mayville Heights, MN.  One of the big attractions at the festival is a young cabaret singer, Emme Finley.  Joining her in town is her assistant Miranda Moore and her sister Nora.  Emme and Miranda are practically identical in appearance.  It is very easy to mix them up.  Which is why when Miranda is found dead, people wonder if Emme was the real target.      While librarian Kathleen Paulson intends on staying out of the investigation, she gets caught in it from the start.  The reason for this: her cat, Hercules, found the body.  He was supposed to be posing for a calendar, but kept getting distracted.  When he went to investigate what caught his eye, he found a body.      You have no idea how much I would love to see The Victory Garden turned into a film or mini-series.  And you have no idea how much I would love to write the screenplay for it.  That is how good this book is, and how much I loved it.  There is a little bit of a slow start, but once I got past that, I did not want to put this book down.      Emily Bryce is eager to strike out on her own.   While others are off fighting in the war (World War I), she is at home living in luxury.   Emily feels she should be doing something important for the war effort, but doesn’t know what.   So far all she has done is visit the wounded soldiers in the hospital next door, and the few other parent-approved tasks she has been allowed to do.   Her friend, Clarissa, is a nurse.   Her brother, Freddie, died while fighting.   She, herself, has done and sacrificed nothing.      Her parents are the biggest reason why Emily has done so little for the war effort.   Devastated over the death of Freddie, the

     It’s cupcake and mystery time! Road Trip Treats /Artwork by Kate Dorsey      Things between cupcake baker Melanie “Mel” Cooper and her mother, Joyce , have not been going well.   Ever since Mel and her boyfriend Joe broke up, Joyce has refused to talk to her daughter.   That’s why when Joyce and her friend Ginny come asking Mel and her Fairy Tale Cupcake bakery to make cupcakes for a local beauty pageant, Mel is furious.   Now her mother will talk to her.   When she wants something.      The situation worsens when her two business partners, Angie and Tate , say they think baking for the pageant is a good idea.   This backs Mel into a corner.      Reluctantly, Mel agrees to making the cupcakes.   One benefit of doing this is she will be around to support Lupe, who has decided to enter the pageant.      Lupe is a friend of Oz, Mel’s intern now-turned employee.   She is not the pageant type, but decides to enter when she learns there is possible scholarship money she can wi

     With each season of Vera , I adore DS Aiden Healy ( Kenny Doughty ) a little more.   However, if someone suddenly knocks off DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn), I would put Aiden at the top of the list of suspects.   She just keeps needling him!   Aiden does start to dish it back as the series goes on, which is good.   But still!   A person can only take so much.   Aiden, however, is a better person than that.   Because in the end, no matter what he and Vera go through, he always shows he cares.
