ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating

For the past several weekends I have been watching the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating.   With different events around the world, each competition features different skaters.   Some I have known for years while others I have never seen before.   All of them are competing for medals as well as a place at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final.                 Although I am excited for those who win, my interest does not lie in who gets what medal.   I am far more concerned that everyone does well and that each skater can come off the ice proud of what they have done.   For some this may mean earning a medal.   Others may feel they have accomplished what they set out to do by landing all their jumps or having perfect timing with their music.   As I have never been a figure skater, I don’t know what is going through a skater’s mind as he or she steps out onto the ice.   That’s why it is so great that Tara Lipinski, Johnny Weir, and Terry Gannon have commentated mos

An Unwilling Accomplice: A Bess Crawford Mystery by Charles Todd

I feel as though the relationship between Bess and Simon is going backwards.   In some of the other Bess Crawford mystery series books there was at least some sign of romantic affection between the two.   Now that I have read the final book for the series so far, it seems as though things are going down a more platonic road.   There were a couple teeny tiny hints that it might not stay that way, but that may have just been my interpretation based upon what I want to happen.   I’m very disappointed.   When I picked up this book I was hoping to find some progress in Bess’s and Simon’s relationship.   Now I’m starting to wonder if it will ever happen.                 This time around, World War I nurse Bess Crawford finds herself in trouble in a way she never has been before.   She was called upon to take care of a wounded soldier as he receives an award from the king.   Sergeant Jason Wilkins is being honored for his acts during battle but is too injured to attend t

A Question of Honor: A Bess Crawford Mystery by Charles Todd

There has been zero romantic development between Bess and Simon.   This is very frustrating.   With nothing more to say about that, I will leave the conversation here.                     Before Bess Crawford became a World War I nurse, she spent her childhood in India.   Her father was running his regiment and he and his wife decided to keep Bess with them instead of sending her back to England for education.   The Crawfords were happy with their decision and became even more so when they heard about the death of young Alice Standish.   She and her older sister were living with a couple in England when she died of typhoid.   There was not time to notify Lieutenant and Mrs. Standish about the illness before Alice died and they were not able to be by her side.                 Devastated, Mrs. Standish is determined to return to England to care for her elder daughter who also has typhoid, but a milder case.   Lt. Standish isn’t able to receive leave, so Colonel a
