My Current Interest

              The third season of Broadchurch is really different from the first two.   In the first two seasons, much of the concentration was on the murder of a boy and the resulting trial.   Season three is about a rape.   The characters from the first two seasons have returned, but there are many new ones as well.                 Trish Winterman (Julie Hesmondhalgh) only planned on celebrating her friend’s fiftieth birthday.   She never expected that during the party she would be knocked unconscious and raped.   Why would she?   The other guests at the party were people Trish knew and trusted.   Nothing bad is supposed to happen when you’re with people you trust.                                 When Trish goes in to report what happened to her, the two cops called to the case are Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) and her boss, Detective Inspector Alec Hardy (David Tennant).   They do their best to be gentle and considerate of Trish, but that becomes mor

Image provided by Kensington Books.             When I saw there was a book called Assaulted Caramel coming out, I looked forward to giving it a try.   To me, an Amish candy shop sounded like a really good premise.   Add on top of that, the fact that I have enjoyed other series’ Amanda Flower has written ( Amish Quilt Shop Mysteries (written as Isabella Alan) and Magical Bookshop Mysteries ), and I figured there was a good chance I would enjoy this one too.   And I certainly did.                 Chocolatier Bailey King is concerned for her grandfather’s well-being when she rushes from New York City to the Amish town of Harvest, Ohio at a moment’s notice.   Jebidiah is unwell and in the hospital, inciting Bailey to leave everything behind in the city to be by his side.   This is why it comes as such a surprise when the first sight Bailey sees after arriving in Harvest is her Amish grandfather arguing with another man in front of his candy shop.                It took me a while to see Hidden Figures .   Not because I didn’t want to, but because other things were usually ahead of it on my movie list.   With so many items on my list, I tend to let a lot of films come when they come.   Which is why when Hidden Figures finally hit the top of my list, I was really excited to receive it in the mail.   There had been so many great things said about this film, and I wanted to see what everyone was talking about.   Once I did, I couldn’t figure out how Hidden Figures didn’t receive more awards than it did.                     It’s the early 1960s and the U.S. is desperately trying to get a man into space.   Helping NASA accomplish this is a group of African American women who act as “computers” by checking the math of others.   Shoved into their own building, away from everyone else, these women are a group of people very few inside NASA recognize.                 It isn’t until Katherine Goble (Taraji P.              Hmm, I’m still not sure about the direction Katie and Declan’s relationship is going.   There are some things I’m seeing that I definitely don’t like.   Since I haven’t read all the books, though, I don’t know if any of those things are going to change for the better.   I certainly hope they don’t change for the worse.                 While it was already expected to be an interesting night having a controversial self-help guru scheduled for a book signing next door to the Honeybee Bakery , no one expected it to be so interesting that a body would turn up.   The body is that of the guest of honor herself, Dr. Dana Dobbs.                 Fortunately, Katie Lightfoot is not the one to find the body this time.   That honor goes to Angie Kissel, a woman who confronted Dr. Dana in front of the entire crowd, trying to convince everyone in attendance that Dr. Dana was a fraud.   With the mix of her outburst and being found leaning over the body, Angie immediately becomes
