The Lord of the Rings

About a month ago, my friend lent me her binder (and I do mean binder) of DVDs.   We had been discussing movies and found out that we liked a lot of the same ones.   There were many recommendations on both sides and that is how I ended up with the binder. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was just a few of the movies.   I have had many friends really like this series and I have never fully watched them.   Pieces I have seen.   Lots of pieces and I have fallen asleep through them quite a few times.   This was the first time I ever truly sat down and watched, at least without falling asleep.   Granted I still did other things as I watched, it is pretty much inevitable that I will do two things at once.   Despite this I could see why people really like these movies and why they did so well. As I watched, I learned quite a few things.   Here is my list of just some of the things I learned from The Lord of the Rings .   1.        Samwise Gamgee is smarter than everyone else put togeth

Bed of Roses: Book Two in the Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts

Emma is the subject of the second installment of the Bride Quartet .   She runs the floral department of Vows and is the most romantic of the four women.   Much of this has to do with the incredible way her parents were brought together and how they still show their love for each other today.   Emma grew up watching this love and dreams of one day having it herself.                 That one day takes Emma by surprise when her long time friend, Jack, suddenly shows an interest.   It does not take long for Emma to fall in love, but she is not sure Jack will ever feel the same way.   What makes the situation worse is Jack is friends with all the women of Vows and best friends with Del, biological and honorary brother of the Vows women.   If things do not work out, if Jack cannot love Emma as she needs, what will happen to the dynamic of the group?   Can the friendships be sustained?                 I will be honest; this is probably my least favorite of the four.   Part

Vision in White: Book One in the Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts

For the past year weddings have been consistently around me.   Not my own, but other people I know, movies, television, and (as you can tell from this post) books have all had weddings featured somehow.   What interests me about this is in all I have seen and read there has not been two occasions exactly alike.   Everyone wants such different things and has unique ideas for how they want their day to turn out.   This takes a lot of work, even for the smaller weddings.   That is where Vows comes in.                 This series is about a group of four women, best friends from childhood, who run Vows, a wedding planning company.   They each have their own specific tasks based on their talents and interests.   All the women are greatly skilled at what they do and try their best to make each wedding as perfect as possible.   Every detail is thought of and handled.   They practically make things worry free for the bride and groom.   Reading about them, oh how I wish this co

Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie

Yesterday I planned to read for only one hour.   Quickly that hour became two, then three, then four, and well, you get the picture.   Except for about twenty pages I read the night before, I read this entire book in one day.   I could not stop reading.   Good thing it was a Sunday.                 There is a place in southern Ohio where two children and a housekeeper live.   The children have seen much death in their short lives, both their parents and an aunt.   In the short time since the death of their aunt, the children have gone through three different nannies.   Their guardian, North, decides to send his ex-wife, Andie, down to fix the situation with the children.   Having been there very little himself, he does not quite know what he is sending Andie into.                 Upon her arrival, Andie finds a property greatly in need of care, a strange housekeeper, reluctant children, oh, and ghosts.   Keep in mind, Andie does not believe in ghosts, but it does not
