Grantchester

Grantchester Tom Brittney Photo of DVD cover taken by Kate Dorsey      Talk about a sad, angering season. That is what season six of Grantchester is.      This doesn’t mean the entire season is bad. If it was, I wouldn’t be writing about it!      I also wouldn’t be saying how happy I am Grantchester has moved from six episodes to eight. No matter how sad some of the storylines were this season, I am happy about that.      Curate Leonard Finch (Al Weaver) is the main reason why this season is so sad and angering. His storyline is what makes this season difficult to watch a lot of times. All Leonard wants to do is be a curate and be with the man he loves. And yet, because of one nasty, mean, jealous person, all that is put at risk.      It all starts with a vacation. Reverend William Davenport (Tom Brittney); DI Geordie Keating (Robson Green) and family; vicarage housekeeper Mrs. Chapman (Tessa Peake-Jones) and husband, Jack (Nick Brimble); and Leonard and his love, Daniel Marl

A Grave Matter: A Lady Darby Mystery by Anna Lee Huber

I don’t think I would like going to a ball. I’m not talking about the high school dance version. But the big society ones. Especially the balls in the 1800s. Where women wore tons of layers and had to figure out how to fit into a carriage. Sadly, for some, a ball might have been the only time a person could get out and be social. I guess if that were the case for me, maybe dealing with the huge clothing and too small carriage would have been worth it. Who knows, after those initial irritations, the ball could end up being a good time.      With the death of her long-lost friend on her mind, Lady Kiera Darby is very happy to spend time with her brother, Trevor. In his house she gets her own space to paint. She also has a companion. A cat who likes to watch her work.      Kiera’s problem is, despite the great working environment, she is unable to paint. She has been unable to ever since her friend’s death. No matter how hard she tries, the desire and drive do not come. Which i

Knives Out

Knives Out Photo of DVD cover taken by Kate Dorsey      I have an odd history with Knives Out . The first time I saw this film was in the theatre. I enjoyed it, but thought I only needed to see it once. I was done. Only, my mom and I kept having questions. When Knives Out was released on DVD, we decided to borrow it and watch it again. Then we watched it for a third and fourth time because we kept coming up with more questions, or one of us would fall asleep. Since then, I’ve watched it even more times. It’s come to the point I feel I have to write about this film. If only to see if it has stuck with anyone else as it has me.      Money and success can cause great problems. It is something author Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) knows all too well. His books have made him a very wealthy man. Because of this, his family only wants to be around him for what he can provide. It is a fact Harlan is very aware of. He also knows, because of this, he has power over everyone in his fam

A Night’s Tail: A Magical Cats Mystery by Sofie Kelly

I will warn you; the ending of A Night’s Tail is on the ambiguous side.   Not with who the killer is.   That is declared for certain.   The ambiguity has to do with Kathleen and Marcus’ relationship.   Because, at the end of the book, Kathleen reveals a secret she has been keeping for a long time.   With the secret out, Marcus has to figure out how he’s going to handle it.           It’s an exciting time for Mayville Heights librarian Kathleen Paulson .   Her brother is in town with his band, The Flaming Gerbils.   While Ethan is visiting, he plans on enjoying his sister’s new hometown , as well as her hospitality.      The visit goes awry when one of Ethan’s bandmates, Derek Hanson, is accused of murder.   Ethan is certain Derek is innocent of killing businessman Lewis Wallace, and wants Kathleen to investigate.   She refuses, only wanting to get involved if it is absolutely necessary.   This upsets Ethan, which is why it is an exceptionally good thing Detective Marcus Gordon

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

Quite a lot has happened in three seasons of CSI . Cast changes. Deaths. Cliff hangers. The best thing for me to do is start at the beginning. Or, more accurately, the end.      At the end of season seven, CSI Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) is kidnapped and trapped under a car. In the first episode of season eight, the CSI lab is doing whatever they can to find her. Only, Sara is not relying on them to save her. She manages to free herself and walks through the desert trying to find someone or someplace that can help her. Sara travels a long way, and almost doesn’t make it out of the desert alive. Except the rearview mirror she is carrying reflects the light and is seen. Sara is found just in time.      This experience makes Sara want to leave CSI. After being surrounded by death for so long with her career, she wants to experience some life. To do that, she sets off for parts unknown.
