My Current Interest

                 Despite this movie being set at Christmas time, I wouldn’t call it a Christmas movie.   The holiday itself plays such a little part in what is going on.   Instead, the story is far more about relationships and finding yourself than anything to do with Christmas.                 Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) is heartbroken.   The man she has been in love with for years is engaged to another woman.   A fact announced at the company holiday party.                 To escape with her grief, Iris decides to put her house up for a temporary trade.   Someone will stay in her Surrey cottage while she stays in their home.   The woman she swaps homes with is Amanda.                ...

               This year I have been inundated with Christmas movies.   It is to the point that I was sick of them by the end of November.   There were a few I continued to watch after that point.   The Most Wonderful Time of the Year is one movie I rarely ever turn away from.                                When my brother bought this for my mother, he referred to it as “The Fonzie Movie” and we have affectionately called it that ever since.   Starring Henry Winkler and Warren Christie, Mr. Winkler is not playing the character of Fonzie.   He is Uncle Ralph.   A retired New York cop, Ralph is going to Chicago to spend Christmas with his niece, Jennifer, and her young son, Brian.   Having not flown in decades, Ralph becomes confused ...

               This is my favorite version of A Christmas Carol .   It is actually the only one I watch.   The only one that sticks pretty true to the story, I mean.   There are others that I enjoy that take the story and twist it.    Even when throwing those into the mix The Muppet Christmas Carol is still my favorite.   Blame it on The Muppets.   I love them.                 Michael Caine stars as the infamous Ebenezer Scrooge.   He has his dutiful worker Bob Cratchit played by Kermit the Frog and his other employees are rats.   Scrooge is his usual stingy self and must be warned about his ways.   Upon returning home on Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by his old business partners, Marley and Marley.   In the original story there is only one.   As the business partners in this v...
