American Ninja Warrior

After both Isaac Caldiero and Geoff Britten reached the top of Mount Midoriyama last year, I wasn’t sure if I would have much interest in this season of American Ninja Warrior .   Now, with the season almost over, I find myself more hooked than ever.   That is because the women are doing incredibly well.   In the past there has been a female competitor here and there that has had success, but this year there is an entire group of them.   With so many women still competing this far into the competition, I eagerly await each episode to see how far they will go.                 If you haven’t seen American Ninja Warrior , probably the best way to describe it is as an obstacle course competition.   The competitors try their best at very physical obstacles that can only be described as insane. ...

2016 Rio Olympics

For the past two and a half weeks my TV viewing has consisted mostly of sports, all because of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.   I think I watched something of the Olympics every single day they were held.   Mostly this can be blamed on tennis and gymnastics, which were the two sports I watched the most.   Tennis had its own channel, but gymnastics was shown along with many other events.   This was how I ended up seeing so many different sports.   As I waited for the gymnastics segments to air, I would frequently watch athletes compete in swimming, beach volleyball, and track and field, to name a few.   No matter what happened to be on my screen, I had a great time watching it.   Each event was suspenseful because who the winner would be was never a guarantee.   There were favorites, of course, but there was always the chance there could be an upset. ...

ShakespeaRe-told

I will be the first to tell you that I don’t like Shakespeare.   That probably sounds odd coming from a person who has a background in both English and theatre, but it’s the truth.   Except for Hamlet , I’ve never grabbed onto Shakespeare’s plays.   I wouldn’t say it was quite dread that I felt when I had to read Shakespeare in one of my classes (unless we’re talking about Romeo and Juliet ), but I certainly did not look forward to it.   Which is why it is probably strange that I had any interest in watching ShakespeaRe-told in the first place.   All I can say is for some reason it grabbed me.   I saw a preview for ShakespeaRe-told in front of another show and something made me want to give it a try.   It could have been that the plays were set in modern day and I was curious to see what the creators did.   Or it might have been that I saw James McAvoy and I...
