A Study in Death: A Lady Darby Mystery by Anna Lee Huber

Image
It must be nice being able to make money doing what you love to do in life. It is what I, and so many other people, try to do every day. The process is long and hard, but I am determined to make it happen.      Lady Kiera Darby loves to paint portraits. Despite her tainted reputation, people still want to sit and be painted by her. Usually, the experience goes well. With Lady Drummond, trouble comes with it.      The trouble comes because Lady Drummond dies before Kiera can finish the painting. After witnessing the way Lord Drummond treated his wife, added with the way Lady Drummond died, Kiera is convinced the death was murder.      The problem with this belief is no one will listen to Kiera. Not even her fiancé, Sebastian Gage. Oh, yes, Gage agrees to look into the matter, but it’s only to appease her. Still, that’s more than the attending doctor did after Lady Drummond’s death.      Kiera, of cou...

The Crown

Image
I wasn’t sure if I was going to write about the fourth season of The Crown or not. It is a hard season to watch. There is a lot of bad behavior on all sides, making it difficult to declare anyone a villain. It definitely keeps me from declaring anyone a saint. Mostly, with each character, there is a lot of pain.        Tugs of the Heart Artwork by Kate Dorsey      The season starts with Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor) struggling to deal with the fact the woman he loves is with another man. Married to him, thanks to great-uncle Lord Mountbatten (Charles Dance). Mountbatten did not believe Camilla Shand (Emerald Fennell) was suitable for Charles. It was he who made sure Camilla married Andrew Parker Bowles ( Andrew Buchan ); keeping Charles from doing so himself.      Eventually Charles has enough. He tells Mountbatten how he feels about the situation. In one of Mountbatten’s last acts before his death, he writes a l...

The Wild Rose Inn Series by Jennifer Armstrong

Image
For quite some time now I have been going through books on my shelf I have never read. It does not matter the age group. I am reading them to see if they are a book I want to keep or donate. A lot I am enjoying, but still deciding to donate in the end. The first three books of the Wild Rose Inn series I am definitely keeping.      The Wild Rose Inn series is a set of books all involving a Massachusetts inn called the Wild Rose Inn. Each book is set in a different period of time, decades apart. All have their own set of characters and events. While each book could technically stand alone, I have enjoyed reading them together. Plus, it makes the occasional reference to a past character all the more understandable. Bridie of the Wild Rose Inn Photo of book cover taken by Kate Dorsey      Bridie of the Wild Rose Inn is the first book in the series. Set in 1695, Bridie MacKenzie is excited to be joining her parents in the Massachusetts...

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation

Image
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Photo of DVD cover taken by Kate Dorsey      Seasons 11-13 were three more very active seasons for CSI . So much happened, I’m hoping I don’t leave anything important out.      At the end of season ten , CSI Ray Langston (Laurence Fishburne) is stabbed repeatedly by serial killer Nate Haskell (Bill Irwin). With the way it happened, I thought maybe the stabbing was a fantasy of Haskell’s. That Ray was really okay. But I was wrong. It is revealed in the start of season eleven Ray really was stabbed, and he is fighting for his life.      Ray survives the attack. As a result, his mission to stop Haskell becomes even stronger. Ray testifies against Haskell in court. He battles against Haskell’s claim he should not be responsible for his actions because of genetics. Ray’s testimony against this claim is convincing. It is ruled Haskell is to stay behind bars. It is a victory for Ray and all Haskell’s victims, for a...
