Exit

There is a game show on TV that I really do not like.  Of course it feels as though this show is on all the time.  When I saw the commercials for the game show Exit, I thought it was going to be like the show I do not like.  The fear element reminded me of the other show which made me not interested at all in Exit.  Then I happened to come across an episode and I discovered something I did not see in the commercials.  There are a lot of trivia and brain teasers.  I love those things!  Now I am hooked.
The premise of the show is that four teams of two must figure out trivia and brain teasers while facing down fears.  Each room the contestants go into uses some sort of fearful element to heighten the anxiety and make it difficult to think.  For me the most terrifying room would be the first room.  This is the Beam Room.  Contestants must figure out the puzzles while standing on an ever shortening plank.  Whoever loses this round falls into a bottomless pit.  That is what would terrify me.  If I were on the show, I would have to make sure I was on one of the three teams which move onto another room.
For the second round there are a couple options for rooms.  First is the Freeze Blaster.  The teams each play three different matching games.  If they have an answer wrong, cold is blasted into the room along with a really loud noise.  The first two teams to complete the games move onto the next round.  Another second round option is the Shredder Room.  The contestants must figure out the answers to different clues using a limited number of letters.  As they do this, a shredder, which looks like a row of saw blades, is creeping up on them.  Once again, the first two teams to figure out the answers moves on.
The third round also has used the Shredder Room, but there are two other options.  First is the Mineshaft, which is pretty much quicksand.  The teams are given clues about specific people or things.  For each wrong answer the team sinks further into the sand.  The team that does not get swallowed up by the sand moves onto the final round.  Another room used is the Wall Room.  Each contestant is locked into a wall.  Without talking to each other, the teammates must both give the correct answer to trivia questions.  Once they get five correct, one teammate is released in order to get their key out of a box using only little grabbers.  The key, after it is freed from the box, opens a door which lets the contestant into a hallway where the walls are closing in.  Once one teammate is through, the other is released to do the same.  The team that completes these tasks the fastest gets to go to the final room.
One more trial awaits the last team standing.  There are two possible rooms.  The Tank, which fills with water, and Cabin in the Woods, where the ceiling comes crashing down.  Both rooms have a series of games and trivia that must be solved in ten minutes.  Only once this is accomplished is the team declared the winner.
The host of this game show, Curt Doussett, is a riot.  He seems to really get a kick out of talking to and watching the contestants through his monitor while they run around terrified.  Not that Mr. Doussett is ever mean; he just likes to needle the contestants.  In many ways, I enjoy watching Mr. Doussett as much as I like the puzzles and trivia.
There were not a lot of episodes in the first season. I hope they make more. Maybe if there is a season two more rooms will be created. It would be exciting to see what the creators come up with. I am also intrigued to see what it takes to get on the show. It seems like it would be fun. Although I am still not sure about the whole shortening plank and bottomless pit thing. But the fun of the game just might overshadow my fear. I would, however, do whatever I could to pass the first room. No falling in the pit for me.
