Disney Channel

Sometimes it is really nice to have something tame to watch.  With all the dark, dreary, and just plain strange things I usually have on my television screen, it is great to have a place I can turn to where everything is pleasant.  Lately that place has been the Disney Channel.
I first started watching the Disney Channel when Girl Meets World came out.  Boy Meets World was a show I enjoyed during its original run and I was curious about what was going to be done with the sequel.  I must say the first few episodes I saw left me disappointed.  Things were far too goofy for my liking.  I decided I would only watch the episodes that had Boy Meets World cast members guest starring.
It was through these episodes that I slowly became attached to the show.  I was able to see the new characters develop and get more mature storylines.  The episodes with the Boy Meets World guest stars are still the ones I look forward to most, but now I find myself thinking about how I want the Girl Meets World storylines to go.  Then I tune in to see if what I want to happen actually does.  It is a sure sign that after a rocky start I am now invested in this show.
As I watched Girl Meets World I started to come across other shows.  Some were not to my liking, but others I have taken to watching when I need a break from my norm.  Actually there are three I look for: Dog with a Blog, Liv and Maddie, and Austin & Ally.
In Dog with a Blog there is a family that has a talking dog.  The kids know about the dog’s ability but the parents don’t.  They spend a lot of time covering for the dog and getting into trouble for the things that he does.
Liv and Maddie is about two drastically different twin girls and their family.  It’s set in Stevens Point, WI which is a big part of what originally drew me to the show.  There is only one other show I can think of currently set in Wisconsin and that is a long running soap opera.  It’s always interesting to me to see how Wisconsin, and the Midwest as a whole, is portrayed.
The show Austin & Ally doesn’t have a lot of family in it, unlike the others.  Instead it’s about four friends working together to build the music career of one of them.  Each as their own specific role in the process which they must do while also going to school and holding down jobs.
There are many other shows and movies on the Disney Channel for all sorts of different age groups, but these are the four I look out for.  Although, I must say I am sometimes intrigued by the Star Wars commercials, especially the show where all the characters are in Lego.  That looks like it has some clever lines that I would find amusing.
Something that I think is great about this channel is that during the commercials they have very encouraging messages to its viewers.  The messages tell the kids who are watching to be who they are and to following their dreams.  These are things that, unfortunately, not every child gets to hear during their everyday life, even though they need to.  I’m glad that Disney realizes this and makes sure to tell everyone on a regular basis.
I will admit, sometimes even the shows I like on the Disney Channel can start to get to me.  How could it not when I’m usually watching something where a person meets an untimely end?  It may sound strange, but all the happiness and light can get to be a bit much at times.  That does not mean I like the shows, or the channel, any less.  It simply means I am done with tame and it is time to go back to my usual viewing.  That’s why the Disney Channel is so perfect.  It has shows I can enjoy and I know they will be there when I need them.
