A Likely Story: A Library Lover’s Mystery by Jenn McKinlay
Well, I’m glad to say the two men
in Lindsey’s life weren’t as combative in this book. It did help that one of them was out of town
for most of the story. As aggravating as
their behavior is when the are together, I hope this is a situation that gets
resolved soon.
One
of the things library director Lindsey Norris likes to do is deliver books to a
pair of brothers who live on one of the town’s nearby islands. Peter and Stewart Rosen rarely, if ever,
leave the island. They stick to
themselves, even calling in their library requests.
Still,
despite being on their own so much of the time, it is odd when Stewart does not
meet Lindsey at the dock for the book exchange.
Concerned something is wrong, Lindsey and the boat captain, Sully, go up
to the house. Not an easy feat, since
the brothers have set up booby traps for any trespassers.
Once
safely inside the house, Lindsey and Sully discover Peter shot to death. To make matters worse, Stewart is
missing. Worried something may have
happened to Stewart, and thinking she may have to draw him out, Lindsey and the
library board members set a trap. They
stay late at the library after a board meeting hoping Stewart will arrive
looking for sanctuary.
The
trap works. Stewart shows up and Lindsey
makes sure he gets warm and is fed.
While she is doing this, her good friend Milton is attacked. Lindsey switches her attention to caring for
Milton, allowing Stewart to disappear again.
Whether he left on his own or was kidnapped is unclear. Either way, Lindsey knows they have to find
Stewart, either for his own safety or because he is a killer.
It
was nice having it be just Lindsey and Sully again. The other romantic interest, Robbie Vine, is
too charming for my liking. Also, the
childish comments between him and Sully are too much. That is why it was so great this book was
mostly about Lindsey and Sully. They
still aren’t fully together again, but they are certainly on their way. However, with Robbie remaining in town, the attraction
between him and Lindsey still needs to get figured out.
On
a very positive note, Lindsey’s best friend Beth has met a great guy. After the disaster of a boyfriend Beth had in
the first book of the series, I hope he stays that way.
