The Cats Came Back: A Magical Cats Mystery by Sofie Kelly

    The magical cats have returned!  As usual, they are doing whatever they want do to.  No one can tell them otherwise and have them actually listen.  Even when they’re magical, there are some traits all cats share.

    A music festival is being held in the town of Mayville Heights, MN.  One of the big attractions at the festival is a young cabaret singer, Emme Finley.  Joining her in town is her assistant Miranda Moore and her sister Nora.  Emme and Miranda are practically identical in appearance.  It is very easy to mix them up.  Which is why when Miranda is found dead, people wonder if Emme was the real target.

    While librarian Kathleen Paulson intends on staying out of the investigation, she gets caught in it from the start.  The reason for this: her cat, Hercules, found the body.  He was supposed to be posing for a calendar, but kept getting distracted.  When he went to investigate what caught his eye, he found a body.

    Out of respect for her boyfriend, Police Detective Marcus Gordon, Kathleen does try to stay out of the investigation despite being involved from the start.  The problem is, her friends want her to look into the case.  After getting pushed at from all sides, Kathleen gives in.    

    Fortunately, Kathleen has Marcus’ support.  He understands looking into things is who Kathleen is.  As long as she tells him what is going on, he will be fine with whatever Kathleen does.

    With the help of Hercules and her other cat, Owen, Kathleen investigates.  They find important clues and get into precarious situations.  More than once Kathleen finds herself in close quarters with interesting people.  Possibly murderers.  It is what she needs to do to solve the case.  She also needs to stay alive in order to that.

    Amongst all the investigating and mystery solving, Kathleen’s friends Roma and Eddie are getting married.  Eddie’s daughter, Sydney, is excited about the marriage.  Roma’s daughter, Olivia, is not.  It is not clear why Olivia is bothered by what Roma is about do.  Wanting Roma to be happy, Kathleen hopes everything gets figured out before the wedding.

    I am glad to see things are going well for Kathleen and Marcus.  Their relationship is going so well, Kathleen feels she is ready to tell Marcus about her cats’ magical abilities.  It is a secret between them right now.  With it, their relationship can only go so far.  With the secret out in the open, who knows how far their relationships could go.
