My Current Interest

                  In the movie Mr. Holland’s Opus , there is a scene where Richard Dreyfuss as Mr. Holland talks about a John Coltrane album.   He says at first he hated the album.   Then he played it again.   And again.   Over and over he played the album until he could not stop playing it.   That is how I felt about The Truth About Love by P!nk.   I did not hate the album by any means.   It just did not appeal to me.   There were some songs I liked, but most did not grab my attention.   I was disappointed since I really like P!nk.                 Fortunately I have a somewhat strict rule that I listen to a CD at least three times before I truly decide if it is not for me.   I do not do this for every album, some I know right away will not be my type of thing, but most I try...

                      Recently my mom and I were discussing different book series’ that suddenly ended.   There was not any notice or even a hint that the series’ were not going to carry on to further books.   I wondered if maybe there had been new books and we just missed them.   If we had not, I wanted to know if there was any information out there to explain the abrupt endings.   The mysteries about Simon Kirby-Jones were one of the series’ I investigated.   In my research, I was only able to find the four books I had already read and I did not find a reason as to why the series ended.   Disappointed, as I really enjoyed the Simon Kirby-Jones books, I decided to read them again.   There is nothing wrong with enjoying the ones that do exist, beginning with Posted to Death .             ...

                     Nearly the entire time I watched Two Brothers , I was certain I was not going to write about it.   The movie was just too sad.   I am a huge animal lover, and there were some parts of the movie that were too painful to watch.   It was not until the last few minutes that I decided that even though this movie was hard to watch, I had to write about it.                           The main characters in this film are two tiger cubs.   They live a happy, playful life until men descend upon the deserted temple where the tiger cubs and their parents live.   The men, led by hunter Aidan McRory (Guy Pearce), are there to strip the temple of its art and beauty.   They do not know tigers live in the temple as well.   Once one o...

              When I saw Tony Danza on Tavis Smiley I knew he had become a teacher but I did not know he had written a book about it.   That is what Mr. Danza was on Tavis Smiley to talk about.   Not being a teacher myself, but knowing people who are, I was intrigued.   After the protests by teachers, amongst many other groups, in Wisconsin’s state capitol last year, I thought reading about someone’s experience with teaching would be a really good idea.   Having the book be about his first year teaching made it even more interesting.                                To start off, Mr. Danza does admit that his year of teaching was a little different as he did not have a full class schedule.   All the other teachers did, but he did not.
