The Lord of the Rings

About a month ago, my friend lent me her binder (and I do mean binder) of DVDs.  We had been discussing movies and found out that we liked a lot of the same ones.  There were many recommendations on both sides and that is how I ended up with the binder.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy was just a few of the movies.  I have had many friends really like this series and I have never fully watched them.  Pieces I have seen.  Lots of pieces and I have fallen asleep through them quite a few times.  This was the first time I ever truly sat down and watched, at least without falling asleep.  Granted I still did other things as I watched, it is pretty much inevitable that I will do two things at once.  Despite this I could see why people really like these movies and why they did so well.
As I watched, I learned quite a few things.  Here is my list of just some of the things I learned from The Lord of the Rings.
1.       Samwise Gamgee is smarter than everyone else put together.
2.       I would have had zero patience for Frodo.  He kept wandering off!  It is not as though he did not know it was an unwise thing to do.
3.       Gollum has serious problems.  I mean serious.
4.       Orks are not friendly fellows.  They are very organized on the battlefield, but not friendly.
5.       Do not mess with trees.  Ents may take awhile to make a decision, but they will stomp on you once they do.
6.       Gandalf is a bit testy.  He does not have much patience, at least not for curious hobbits.
7.       This movie is funny.  Especially the relationship and one liners between the elf Legolas and the dwarf Gimli.  Asking if he wants a box.  Ha!
8.       Immortal somehow equals you can die.  I am a tad confused.
9.       There is apparently a wizard dress code.  Long white hair and robes.  Is this written somewhere?
10.   Following Viggo Mortensen, ok Aragorn, is not exactly the worst idea on the planet, for any reason.
11.   I do not like watching Sean Bean, who played Boromir, die (sorry if I ruined that for anyone).
12.   If you want to win a battle, hire ghosts.  Things seemed to go so much smoother.
13.   The letter g is used a lot.  Gandalf, Gimli, Gollum…  Then there are the gs inside words.  Legolas, Baggins, Aragorn…
14.   Sam is smarter than everyone.  I know I said this before, but I truly believe if Sam had been given just a few minutes to think, he would have come up with a much more efficient plan.  The movie could have been done in two hours.
Despite my cavalier attitude, and my continuous frustration with Frodo, I had a great time watching these movies.  It is a story of good and evil, emphasis on the evil of power, and for the most part the movies move quickly.  Besides, how could you go wrong watching good looking warriors?

This is one of my favorite stories of all time. The books are the best selling books in the world only second to the bible. The story really endures even though it was written in the 1930's-1940's.
