School of Rock

Lately all I have wanted to do is laugh.  Usually when that is what I really want or need to do, I discover it is difficult to find funny things.  Thankfully this time I have found quite a few and School of Rock is one of them.
I saw this movie when it came out in theatres I do not know what year.  As I was not a Jack Black fan at the time, I believe I saw it because someone else wanted to.  I did not know I would come away loving the movie and despite owning the DVD, watching it repeatedly on TV.
Mr. Black plays Dewey a man who has just been kicked out of his band and does not really have a direction in life.  He lives with his friend, Ned, and Ned’s very controlling girlfriend in a not very big apartment.  Desperate, Dewey poses as Ned and takes a substitute teaching job at a high end prep school.  Clearly Dewey is not qualified to be a teacher, but he discovers the kids’ musical talent and decides to turn them into a band.
Jack Black is hilarious as he poses as a teacher and tries to get this band going in secret.  Joan Cusack is the principal of the school and I feel terrible for her as no matter how hard she tries, someone is not happy.  The kids do a really good job and I never feel they are acting too old or made to be too cutesy.  There is a very nice balance with them. My favorite scene is the performance scene, but I always look forward to the credits as well.  Yes, I said the credits.  They are also funny, although on TV they do not split the screen as I believe they do on the DVD.  This does make a difference.
