Two-Minute Mysteries by Donald J. Sobol
Lately my attention span has been short. Shorter than usual, I mean. No matter whether it is books, music, movies, or television; my brain drifts. Even my beloved Face Off, which I anxiously await every week, has me only partially paying attention. (Note: I am not saying there is anything wrong with Face Off. I love it and believe the talent and the show is absolutely fantastic. If I had my choice, everyone would watch!) This lack of attention happens to me every once in awhile, but this time is worse than usual. That is why I have turned to my ever reliable books, Two-Minute Mysteries.
There are three Two-Minute Mysteries books. First is the original Two-Minute Mysteries, then there is More Two-Minute Mysteries, and the last is Still More Two-Minute Mysteries. These books have come off my shelf so many times I have practically memorized the stories. That does not mean I do not want to keep reading them. As none of the stories are even a full two pages, these are great for when my brain just does not want to settle.
Each story involves the great detective Dr. Haledjian. He helps solve murders, thefts, and reasons why a woman is not impressed by a man. Not a lot of information is presented, but there is enough for Dr. Haledjian to solve the case. The reader gets to see if he or she can come up with the same conclusion based on the facts presented. Each answer is on the second page of the story, printed upside down. This is really nice because then the answer can be read right away instead of having to search in the back of the book.
The mysteries themselves, in my opinion, range in difficulty. Some are pretty easy to figure out while others are more of a challenge. It always feels great to solve the mystery on my own, even if it is an easy one. In the end it does not really matter whether or not my answer is correct. I enjoy the stories and I am thrilled that they can help me finally calm my brain.
