My Current Interest

                  Last year there was a lot of coverage about the 100 th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.   I watched a lot of different specials and at least one of the new movies.   While the movie was a work of historical fiction, the specials were more factual.   I found them to be really interesting as the people involved discussed what happened and could have been prevented.   They went through a lot of different evidence and explained their theories about the events surrounding the Titanic.   The novel The Dressmaker is a work of historical fiction and does not center itself around evidence.   It is the story of a young woman who survived the Titanic and the events of her life immediately afterwards.                 Tess is, for lack of a better term, a servant.   She hate...

               When I am sick all I truly care about is getting better.   Not much else crosses my mind except for all the things I would rather be doing other than being sick.   This may sound selfish to some, but it is how I feel and I am sure I am not alone in this sentiment.   Who truly likes feeling awful and not being able to do anything?   Maybe someone does, but I do not think it is any fun.                         Recently I became sick.   It was pretty severe.   While traditionally people turn to chicken noodle soup to feel better, I do not.   I have never taken to it.   Instead I seek out Hot and Sour Soup from the restaurant Great Taste.   Located in Wauwatosa, WI, Great Taste is my favorite Chinese restaurant.   Somehow its Hot and Sour Soup a...

               Lately I have been gorging on Greek yogurt.   Okay, maybe gorging is the wrong word.   I am not eating yogurt twenty-four hours a day.   But I am eating it much more frequently than I used to.   It is not often that a day goes by that I do not eat at least one container of yogurt, if not two.   The yogurt is that good and I find I even want it for dessert.   One single serving cup is very satisfying.   It also works great as a shot of protein when I am running out the door.                 The two brands I eat are Oikos and Chobani.   I like both brands but for different reasons.   Oikos has the better texture, in my opinion.   I agree with John Stamos on that one.   The yogurt is really smooth.   Chobani has more unique and interesting flavors.   Blood Orange ...

                It is that time of year again!   Now is the weeks between Wimbledon and the U.S. Open where there is a lot of televised tennis.   Five weeks to be exact.   Then it is the U.S. Open.   All these weeks make up the U.S. Open Series.   So far there has been one tournament; two if you are watching both the men and the women.   I happen to be watching, and will be talking about, only the men.   Some of the women’s matches I have caught a few moments of here and there, however.                   Last week the men played in Atlanta.   I was not able to see all the matches, but the ones I did see were good.   Often I was torn because I liked both of the players on the court.   The Isner/Hewitt match was especially difficult because I so wanted them both to win for two very...

                    If I was able to choose any person in the world to come and remodel my home, I think I would choose Mike Holmes.   I have seen his show, which terrifies me, and I feel Mr. Holmes really knows what he is doing.   He also wants to make sure everything gets done right.   That is why I am absolutely crazy about his book, Making It Right: Expert Advice on Home Renovations .   Mr. Holmes covers a lot of important information and I refer to this book all the time, even when I am not doing anything to the house.                 One of the biggest and most important parts of the book is hiring a contractor.   The type of person you work with definitely determines how successful a project is or is not.   Mr. Holmes gives advice on what to look for in a contractor and the steps...

                Several months ago I came across the show American Ninja Warrior during a marathon on one of the cable channels.   I did not know what the show was and I thought I would only watch for a few minutes in order to figure out what exactly I was watching.   In the end I watched the rest of the marathon, which was on for several more hours.   Maybe it is because I liked American Gladiators , but I found this show to be absolutely fascinating.   When the marathon ended, I eagerly awaited the start of the new season.                                American Ninja Warrior is, for a lack of a better way to describe it, a competition consisting of obstacle courses.   Really challenging obstacle courses.   I cannot believe some of t...
