My Current Interest

                 This is the film that sparked the Chicago Tribune article that led me to revisit the Back to the Future trilogy.   In it are the predictions the 1989 film makers made as to what the year 2015 would look like.   It is completely different from reality, but I’ll get into that later.   First I’ll talk about the film itself.                 Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) has just returned to 1985.   He’s ready to get back to life as normal and is excited to be going on a trip with his girlfriend, Jennifer (Elisabeth Shue).   Doc (Christopher Lloyd), however, changes their plans when he arrives to let them know they need to save their future children.   He packs Marty and Jennifer in the time machine and whisks them away to the year 2015.        ...

                 It’s strange to think that Back to the Future has been out for almost thirty years.   I didn’t even realize it until the Chicago Tribune had an article about Back to the Future II .   In that film the characters travel to 2015 and the Chicago Tribune compared the “predictions” of the film’s 2015 to what it will actually be.   After reading the article I decided it was time for me to watch the trilogy again.   I have only watched Back to the Future so far, but I will be watching the other ones soon.                 Marty McFly (Michael J.                  It’s funny how I can not watch a movie for a long time and then suddenly I am watching it twice in two days.   Forrest Gump has been airing on AMC lately, and as I have not seen it in awhile, I decided to watch.   I first saw the film when it was released in theatres years ago.   While I don’t remember if I understood all the cultural and historical references, I do know I liked the film.   For years I had a VHS copy, which has now been replaced with the DVD, and I still own the soundtrack.   Forrest Gump is a great film and there is little wonder why it won so many awards.                   Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) has not had the life most people would probably expect.   Needing braces on his legs and having below average intelligence, Forrest is pretty much written off as a...

                 I don’t know anyone who has seen A&E’s Pride and Prejudice and not fallen in love with Colin Firth’s Mr. Darcy.   Even though there have been actors who portrayed Mr. Darcy before and after Mr. Firth, his is the only one ever mentioned.   Colin Firth is Mr. Darcy, end of story.                 Jane (Keri Russell) in the movie Austenland is not any different from the rest of us; she just takes it farther than most.   Obsessed with Mr. Darcy, and Jane Austen in general, Jane has an entire room dedicated to her fascination.   In the room there is a stand-up cardboard cutout of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.   Unfortunately the cutout is not in good condition as one of Jane’s former boyfriends got upset at Jane’s obsession and punched the cutout in the face.   But Jane still has it, alon...

                  When I saw the commercial for Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop Challenge I could not wait for the show to air.   I have watched Jim Henson’s work my entire life.   I’m not talking about just Sesame Street and the Muppet movies, but The Dark Crystal , Labyrinth , and Fraggle Rock too.   I would love to work with The Jim Henson Company, even if it’s just for a day.   It would be fascinating to visit the workshop and see how the creatures are invented and then put together.   If I got that opportunity I would be so excited.   Unfortunately I do not believe my visiting the workshop will happen tomorrow, so, for now, I will use that excitement for Jim Henson’s Creature Workshop Challenge instead.                      On this show ten contestants are competing t...

                 There is something about watching a wedding come together that is absolutely fascinating.   I am not talking about the fighting, the tears, or the mishaps.   What I like to see is the dress being chosen, where the flowers came from, and how the location is transformed.   The drama can go somewhere else.   I want to see the creation of the wedding from start to finish.   My Big Fat Geek Wedding , a recent Premiere Event on Syfy, did this, but with a twist.   The wedding that was held was not traditional, it was based on fantasy.                       Mandie Bettencourt and Julian Roman want a wedding that involves their love of fantasy.   They are looking to have a theme of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones but are having a hard time finding a weddi...

               When Taking Chance first came out, I heard about the film but I did not know much about it.   I knew it starred Kevin Bacon and that his character was in the military.   Also I knew the film had something to do with visiting the family of a fallen soldier.   Beyond that the movie was a mystery to me.   Then it showed up in the recommended film section and I threw it on my list.   The disc would arrive when it arrives and that was it.   After seeing the film I am so happy I put it in my queue.   Even though it is on the short side, every minute has a lot of impact and I feel this is a film everyone should see.                               Marine Lt.
