Psych

Yesterday, after watching a heart breaking tennis match (yes, I get that involved in certain matches) all I wanted to do was watch Psych.  There have not been any new episodes for closing in on a year and I was beginning to get worried the show was not coming back.  Thankfully new episodes are coming soon and on top of it, another channel has started to air the reruns on the weekend.  I am having a great time watching the reruns since they make me laugh every time.
I will be honest, when this show first came out, I was not that big on it.  A lot of this may have been because it aired after Monk which I absolutely adored.  It took me a bit, but once I really sat and watched the show, I realized just how funny it is.
The premise is Shawn is a fake psychic detective.  His father trained him to be hyper-observant throughout his childhood and he is using this ability to fool the cops into believing he is psychic.  Reluctantly along for the ride is Shawn’s best friend, Gus.  The more practical of the two, Gus helps Shawn solve cases while trying to keep his pharmaceutical salesman career intact.  While Gus would not betray Shawn by telling the police the truth, there is always the risk of Shawn’s father spilling the beans.  He rolls his eyes at what Shawn is up to, and they consistently butt heads, but for some reason Shawn’s father keeps the secret.
Two police detectives are a large part of the story as well.  Lassiter does not believe Shawn is psychic, but does not know how to prove this.  Shawn drives him absolutely crazy as Lassiter is a serious detective and Shawn is most definitely not.  On top of it, Shawn keeps showing up Lassiter with his “psychic” ways.  Then there is the other detective, Juliet.  She is Shawn’s love interest.  This is clear from the start, but what is not is if they will ever truly get together.
I laugh so much when I watch this show.  There are great one-liners and I love all the random references to things.  I never know what is going to be mentioned.  Once it was the Milwaukee Brewers’ sausage mascots.  I got such a kick out of that, especially since the show is set in Santa Barbara.  Another thing that is interesting is the theme song.  So often they change it depending on what is going on with the episode.  It is an odd thing to look forward to, but I do.
